Gemma Arterton

Gemma Arterton

Gemma Arterton is an example of an actress who actively didn't want the role of Wonder Woman. Why wouldn't someone want to play Wonder Woman? You'd have to understand that before Gal Gadot's 'Wonder Woman' came out, no one was sure what a Wonder Woman movie would look or feel like. There were plenty of reasons to be nervous about the movie. For one thing, no one knew how empowering the movie would end up being to women. The character was handled incredibly well. Gemma, being a vocal critic on the portrayal of women in film, wasn't keen on playing the sexy hero.

Gemma had good reason to be skeptical. 'Wonder Woman' could have easily been a sexy, male-driven fantasy, but it wasn't. Good on Gemma for sticking to her guns, even if it would have been a great move for her.
